Lightroom Classic vs. Lightroom: Which One Do You Have?
Adobe sells two different apps under the Lightroom name, and they don't work the same way — Luxii only works with Lightroom Classic. Lightroom Classic is the desktop, folder-based application: a Library module, a catalog file that lives on your hard drive, and a File ▸ Plug-in Manager where you install add-ons like Luxii. Lightroom — sometimes still called Lightroom CC — is Adobe's cloud-native app instead: your photos live in Adobe's cloud storage rather than local folders, and it has no plug-in support at all, because its simpler, panel-based interface was never built with a plugin architecture. There's no Plug-in Manager, no menu to add one, nothing for Luxii or any other plugin to install into. That's the real, concrete difference behind “Lightroom Classic vs. Lightroom”: it's not a version number, it's two separate applications, and only one of them runs plugins.
Two-second check: open the app and click Help ▸ About in the menu bar. If it reads “About Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic,” you're in the right app — download below. If it just says “About Adobe Lightroom,” with no “Classic,” that's the cloud app, and Luxii has nowhere to install.
How to install
Download & unzip
Click the button for your Mac above, then unzip the download — you'll get a folder called Luxii.lrplugin. Move it somewhere permanent, like your Documents folder.
Add the plug-in to Lightroom
In Lightroom Classic: File → Plug-in Manager → Add. Navigate to the Luxii.lrplugin folder and click Add Plug-in.
Enter your account URL & license key
In Lightroom: Library ▸ Plug-in Extras ▸ Luxii: Settings. Set the account URL to https://luxii.app and paste your license key, then click Save Settings.
Tag your first photo
Select one or more photos in the Library module, then run Library ▸ Plug-in Extras ▸ Luxii: Tag Selected Photos. Metadata writes directly into your catalog — no API key, no export.
System requirements
Luxii doesn't run anywhere else. It's not compatible with cloud Lightroom or the Lightroom mobile app — neither supports plugins at all — and there's no Windows download yet. A Windows build exists and works; it just isn't signed with a Windows EV certificate, a separate, slower process from Apple's notarization that hasn't been completed. It's finished and in final testing, and this page will list a Windows download the moment that's done.

Is Luxii Safe to Install? (Gatekeeper & Notarization)
I get why an “unidentified developer” warning makes people hesitate — that's exactly the kind of thing you should be suspicious of. Luxii's engine binary is signed with my own Apple Developer ID, and every release gets submitted to Apple's notarization service before it ships, so Apple can scan it for known malware signatures and accept or reject it. I checked the current release directly against Apple's own notarization servers — it was submitted and Accepted, not just assumed. That's what actually stops the warning: Gatekeeper only blocks software that's unsigned or non-notarized, and Luxii is neither. You shouldn't need to right-click and choose “Open” to get past anything, and you shouldn't need to approve it manually in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security — download the zip, unzip it, and install it like anything else. If you ever see a warning that doesn't match what I've described here, stop before clicking through it and email me at hello@luxii.app — that's not how a properly notarized release of Luxii is supposed to behave.

FAQ
Can I install on more than one computer?+
Yes — your license works on up to 3 machines simultaneously. Seats free up automatically after 30 days of inactivity, so you never need to manually deactivate an old computer.
Do I need an Anthropic API key?+
No. Luxii uses hosted inference — your license key is all you need. Luxii holds the Anthropic key server-side. Your images are never stored on the Luxii server; only token counts are retained.
What happens when I run out of credits?+
Tagging stops until you buy more. Credits never expire, so there's no pressure to use them quickly. You can see your balance at any time in your account, and buy packs starting at $15 for 1,000 images.
Does Luxii work with Lightroom (cloud/subscription) or only Classic?+
Only Lightroom Classic. Lightroom — the cloud, subscription-based app Adobe also sells under the same name — has no plugin support at all, so there's nothing for Luxii to install into. If you're not sure which one you have, click Help ▸ About in the menu bar: if it says “Lightroom Classic,” you're set.
What macOS version does Luxii require?+
macOS 12 Monterey or later. Luxii's engine binary is a native Mac build, signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it installs on any Mac meeting that floor without a Gatekeeper warning.
Which Lightroom Classic versions does Luxii support?+
A modern release of Lightroom Classic. Luxii is built and tested against current releases, so keeping Lightroom Classic reasonably up to date is the safest way to make sure its Library ▸ Plug-in Extras menu and metadata fields behave exactly as documented here.
I got an “unidentified developer” warning — is it safe?+
That warning shouldn't appear with a properly downloaded copy of Luxii — the current release was submitted to Apple and Accepted by Apple's own notarization servers, so Gatekeeper should open it without any warning or override. If one does show up, don't click through it; email hello@luxii.app first and we'll sort out what happened.
